More than $117 million worth of goods were exported from Iran to Iraq through the Chazzabeh Border Terminal located in Dasht-e Azadegan County’s Bostan District, Khuzestan Province, during the four months to July 22, the news portal of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture reported. According to Chairman of Ahvaz Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Shahla Amouri, the exports registered a 22% increase compared with the corresponding period of last year.

Overall, Iran exported $2.05 billion worth of non-oil commodities to Iran during the four months compared with $1.926 billion during the corresponding period of the preceding year.

Chazzabeh, as Amouri told Financial Tribune, is one of the most active terminals in exporting Iranian goods to Iraq.  She added that most of the exports to Iran’s neighboring country are made through the southwestern Khuzestan Province. The province is also home to two other export terminals: Shalamcheh and Arvandkenar. Chazzabeh is also of great importance since every year, millions of Iranian pilgrims make their journey from there on foot toward the holy Iraqi city of Karbala during Arbaeen, a Muslim religious ritual observed 40 days after Ashura–the day marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH).
