Kermanshah Railroad Track-Laying Complete

Track-laying for a railroad connecting the western provincial capital of Kermanshah to Iran’s national rail network has been completed, Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company, the company implementing the project, announced on Friday.  The Forouzan-Kermanshah route is the extension of a line connected to Malayer and from there to Arak in Markazi Province. Kermanshah Governor General Asadollah Razani described as unprecedented track laying of 110 kilometers of the route in the past six months, IRNA reported. Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi is due to officially inaugurate the railroad on Monday. However, it will take a few months for the project to become fully operational. The line branches out of Iran’s old North-South route passing through Arak. The Arak-Kermanshah railroad is part of the so-called Gharb (West) rail project, which includes two routes that will ultimately connect Arak to Khosravi Border Crossing in Kermanshah Province that borders Iraq. Some 12 million tons of cargo and 1.9 million passengers will be transported upon the completion of the project.
