Fruit smuggling has declined by 90% since the fiscal 2013-14 when Hassan Rouhani first took office as Iran’s president, according to the managing director of Iran’s Confiscated Assets Organization, Amin Daliri. The import of all types of fruit, except for bananas, pineapples, coconuts and mangos, are considered illegal in Iran. However, fruit markets, especially those in the capital Tehran, abound with contraband fruit, IRNA reported.
