About 70% of the domestic demand for sports equipment are supplied by imports, the head of Producers and Sellers of Sports Equipment Union said.

Morteza Haqparast added that the machinery used in the country are mostly worn out, which make it difficult for producers to compete with their foreign counterparts.

There are close to 1,200 licensed sports equipment sales outlets in Iran while 1,000 more are operating without a license, ILNA reported.
