More than 690,000 tons of different kinds of pulses were produced in Iran in the last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2017), a deputy agriculture minister said.
Abbas Keshavarz also said the pulses included 270,000 tons of chickpeas and split peas, 250,000 tons of peas, 80,000 tons of lentils and 90,000 tons of broad beans and mungs, IRNA reported.
“The local production of all pulses, except for lentils, is sufficient to meet domestic demand,” he said.
“Last year, 8,580 tons of beans worth $16.77 million and 1,600 tons of chickpeas worth $1.26 million were exported”.
