Track-laying for a railroad connecting the western provincial capital of Kermanshah to Iran’s national rail network will become operational in early August. The Forouzan-Kermanshah route is the extension of a line connecting to Malayer and from there to Arak in Markazi Province. It branches out from Iran’s old North-South route. Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Kheirollah Khademi has been quoted as saying by the ministry’s news portal that tracks for 17 kilometers of the route need to be laid to reach Kermanshah. However, Khademi noted that it will take a few months for the project to become fully operational. The Arak-Kermanshah railroad is part of the so-called Gharb (West) rail project, including two routes, which will ultimately connect Arak to Khosravi Border Crossing in Kermanshah Province bordering Iraq.
