About $650 million worth of goods were exported from Varamin County on the outskirts of Tehran Province in the last Iranian year (March 2016-17), registering a 10% increase compared to the year before.

“Last year, 127 Varamin-based producers exported agricultural, industrial and handicraft products to 27 countries,” Hassan Mirzaei, the head of Varamin Industries, Mining and Trade Organization, was quoted as saying by IRNA.

The exports included leather, glass, crystal, hand-woven carpet, paint, resin, dairy products, pistachio and stone. The export destinations were Germany, China, Italy, Algeria, Turkey, Iraq, Tanzania, India, Turkmenistan, Malaysia, Syria, and Afghanistan.

With a population of 300,000 people, Varamin boasts 750 small, medium-sized and large production units.
