About 4.8 million tons of goods were transported via railroad in the southern Hormozgan Province during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21-June 21), registering a 12% rise compared with the corresponding period of the year before, director general of Hormozgan Railways said. “The provincial railroads also posted a 23% rise in loading and 4% increase in unloading during the period,” Mohammad Pourfakhri was also quoted as saying by IRNA. Shahid Rajaee Port in the city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan is Iran’s biggest container port, accounting for more than half of Iran’s total port throughput. The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways recently signed a deal with Esfahan Steel Company for the transportation of 250,000 tons of ESCO’s products to the southern port, with the aim of further increasing the share of rail in Iran’s cargo transportation.
