The budget for the current fiscal year (March 2017-18) has allocated 80 trillion rials ($2.13 billion) to transportation projects, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Amir Amini said.

Most of the budget, he was quoted as saying by the ministry's news portal, will go for the completion of carryover projects initiated under the previous government led by former president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The deputy minister said back in December that the ministry needs 1.63 quadrillion rials (over $40 billion) to complete carryover transportation projects across the country.
