Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture plans to hold online courses on the rules of World Trade Organization from July 1 to August 1. A statement posted on ICCIMA’s news portal said the sessions are aimed at addressing the need for raising awareness about WTO rules and regulations, as well as its effect on increasing exports and boosting economic ties with the international community. Iranian chambers of commerce, home to representatives of the private sector, have been pushing for the acceleration of the country’s belated WTO accession process ever since President Hassan Rouhani took office in August 2013. Iran has been an observer member in the organization for years amid lack of global consensus over its membership mostly due to political reasons. Experts say the lifting of international sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program in January 2016 as part of a nuclear deal Tehran signed with world powers months earlier could help Iran move forward with its accession bid.
