Iran’s total cereal production for 2017 is forecast to stand at 20.1 million tons to register a 0.9% increase compared with the 2016 estimate of 19.9 million tons, according to the latest data released by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
The figure for the country’s total grain production in 2015 stood at 18.3 million tons.
Based on FAO’s report, which was released earlier this month, wheat production for 2017 is forecast to stand at 13.5 million tons, on par with the 2016 estimated level and up from the 2015 production of about 11.5 million tons.
Coarse grains production is estimated to reach 4 million tons this year. The figure for 2016 amounted to 3.9 million tons, down from 4.4 million tons in 2015.
Rice production is forecast to reach 2.6 million tons, 100,000 tons more than the estimated production of last year. The figure amounted to 2.3 million tons in 2015, according to the report.
