An average of $3 billion worth of livestock, poultry and fish feed inputs are imported by Iran every year, the head of Iran Feed Association said.
“It is estimated that 82%, 16% and 26% of livestock corn, wheat and barley respectively as well as 90% of different oilseed feeds will be supplied through imports in the current Iranian year (started March 21),” Majid Movaffaq Qadiri added.
According to the official, Iran imported 55,000 tons of livestock concentrates, supplements and additives worth close to $65 million from 41 countries in 2016, Mehr News Agency reported.
Iran accounts for 0.3% of the global livestock concentrates, supplements and additives imports.
More than 200,000 tons of different types of livestock, poultry and fish feed worth $68 million were exported from Iran to 11 countries in 2016.
“Industrial livestock feed factories are, at present, working at 30% of their capacity, yet we are able to meet 99% of our domestic demand for these products,” Qadiri said.
