Iran has received $15-20 million discount on the Airbus A330 passenger planes it has ordered from the European planemaker, a deputy minister of roads and urban development said. The A330 models’ list prices hover around $250 million. Iran has ordered 100 aircraft from Airbus, plus 80 others from its American rival Boeing in separate deals signed after the January 2016 implementation of the nuclear deal the country signed with world powers back in 2015. “The most important aspect of these deals was the fact that we had the chance to bargain,” Asghar Fakhrieh-Kashan also told ILNA. The global planemaking industry is in slump. “Despite denials by manufacturers that the downturn is hurting, Iran’s return to the market has brought to light pockets of surplus aircraft,” Reuters reported earlier this month. Iran has already received two out of a total of 38 A330 wide-body jets it has ordered from Airbus in addition to an A321.
