Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi met with Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament Speaker Chynybai Tursunbekov in Tehran to discuss the prospects of mutual cooperation in transportation sector, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development’s news service reported on Wednesday.
The two sides discussed ways of accelerating a rail connectivity project from China to Iran through Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
The KTAI Rail Corridor spans 2,155 kilometers, the Economic Cooperation Organization, which helps coordinate the project, announced.
Iran is working on the section stretching from the Afghan border to the city of Herat in the neighboring country.
