Over 23,000 tons of conserves worth $24 million were brought into the country under the category of “jam, jelly, marmalade, fruit pulp and puree that is made via cooking without adding sugar or other sweeteners” in the last Iranian year (March 2016-17), the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration reported. Over $23 million of the total imports in this category belonged to fruit pulp and puree that are accounted as intermediate goods and used by fruit beverage industries as the raw material. Figures show over 80% of the imports of fruit pulp and puree belonged to five food manufacturing companies. Jam imports accounted for less than 0.1% of the total imports of this group, IRNA reported.
