About 49.57 million tons of cement were produced in Iran in the last fiscal year (March 2016-17), indicating a 6.4% drop compared to the year before, the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade reported. The ministry’s data also show the aggregate production of Iran’s 71 cement plants in the 11th Iranian month of Bahman (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) was down 7.6% year-on-year to more than 3.44 million tons, IRNA reported. According to Cement Employers Association, the industry is currently operating at 75% of its production capacity due to market stagnation and loss of export markets. Industries Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh said Iran exported 11.5 million tons of cement during the 11-month period. Iran is currently the world’s seventh largest cement producer.
