Iran is in talks with France-based plane manufacturer Airbus and pursuing a joint venture with Italy’s ATR to domestically produce aircraft parts, says Iran’s Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari. “We have held meetings with the two planemakers and we will soon conclude the talks,” he was quoted as saying by ILNA. “We are currently finalizing a list of parts, in the production of which Iran will cooperate,” he added. On Thursday, Iran Air signed a contract with ATR to purchase 20 regional turboprop planes, with the option of adding 20 more in the future. The flag carrier also signed a deal with Airbus to acquire 100 planes back in December. Three of the Airbus orders have already been delivered.
