A 264-kilometer railroad from Tehran to Hamedan will be inaugurated in May, the minister of roads and urban development said. “Rail tracks for more than 240 kilometers [of the line from Tehran] have been laid and we have reached a 20-km distance from Hamedan,” the ministry’s news service quoted Abbas Akhoundi as saying on the sidelines of a visit to the construction sites on Thursday. When launched, the route will accommodate trains running at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour. Akhoundi said this could increase in the future to 200 kph.
