MPO Revival

The government has authorized the revival of the Management and Planning Organization (MPO) through merging two presidential offices, MNA reported on Wednesday. Based on the latest decision of the Supreme Administrative Council, the planning and strategic supervision office and the management and human resources development office will be merged to revive the MPO, the key body dissolved by former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.  “The large number of government employees, specifically in recent years, has affected the government’s efficiency in a negative way,” according to First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri, the report said. “MPO authorities will have to do their best to reform the administrative system,” he added. The MPO is tasked to evaluate the country’s resources and prepare its medium and long-term development plans and policies. Previously known as the Plan and Budget Organization (PBO), it was one of the largest government establishments in Iran from 1948 to 2007.
