Imports Meet 90% of Domestic Butter Demand

Close to 90% of Iran’s domestic demand for butter are met by imports, Deputy Agriculture Minister Hassan Rokni said.
“Iranians consume some 60,000 tons of butter every year, some 50,000 tons of which are imported,” he was quoted as saying by IRNA.
Rokni noted that the government plans to become self-sufficient in the production of butter within the next 10 years through selective livestock breeding for increasing the fat content in milk.
