Around 2.2% of Iran’s population are foreign-born, the findings of the recent National Population and Housing Census show.
Iran’s current population is 79,926,270, of whom 1,583,979 or 1.98% are Afghanistan-born residents.
In the Iranian year 1385 (March 2006-7), Afghans made up 1.72% of the population and in 1390 (March 2011-12) they accounted for 1.93% of Iran’s population.
Foreign-born immigrants from Iraq constitute 0.04% of the Iranian population, IRNA reported.
