The project to connect Iran to Afghanistan through railway is reaching its final stages inside Iran after the completion of Rashtkhaar station in the northeastern province of Khorasan-e Razavi. The project in Afghanistan, however, is pending, awaiting the Asian Development Bank’s $165 million grant. The 900-km railway line will connect Chabahar port in southeast of Iran to the mineral-rich Hajigak region of Afghanistan. It will support mining projects, which would drive economic growth in underdeveloped Afghanistan.
