Mashhad International Airport handled 9.41 million passengers and 65,343 flights during the 11 months to February 18, registering an increase of 18% and 17% respectively compared with the similar period of last year, director general of Khorasan Razavi Airports Company, Mohammad Baqer Qasemzadeh, said.

“The figure is expected to reach 10 million by the yearend (March 20, 2017),” he added. Noting that demand for air travel to Mashhad annually grows by 20%, Qasemzadeh said 36 Iranian and international airlines are active at the airport, 18 of which are domestic.

Operating 180 fights per day, Mashhad International Airport, also known as Shahid Hashemi Nejad Airport, is Iran’s busiest second only to Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport. It is connected to 34 domestic and 17 overseas destinations, IRNA reported.
