Iran imported 72,000 tons of tires worth $244 million this year (March 2016-17), registering a 9% decrease in terms of weight compared to last year, the chairman of Tire Industry Association of Iran said. Mohammad Reza Ganji did not compare this year’s import value with that of last year. He noted that this year’s domestic tire production has seen a 15% rise without elaborating, ISNA reported. Abbas Abbasi, a member of the Association of Tire Manufacturers, had earlier said over 80% of tires imported to Iran come from China, adding that the 20% anti-dumping duty currently in place is not sufficient to protect local manufacturers.
