Imports of different kinds of feeds for livestock, poultry and fish declined by 13% during the 11 months to February 18 compared with the corresponding period of last year to reach close to 8.4 million tons, the chairman of Iran’s Livestock, Poultry and Fish Feed Industries Union said.

“The annual domestic demand for livestock grain inputs and feeds required to produce animal feed is nearly 18 million tons. The nominal capacity of Iran’s livestock feed production is 21 million tons. Yet, last year (March 2015-16), over 8 million tons were produced,” Majid Movaffaq Qadiri was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Qadiri estimated that next year (starting March 21), Iran will import 82%, 16%, 36% and 90% of its domestic demand for livestock corn, wheat, barley and animal feed respectively.
