Given its strategic geographical position, Iran can act as the facilitator of transportation and transit in the region and the world. The statement was made by Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi in his address to transport ministers from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe region and beyond in a meeting themed “Past and Future of UNECE Inland Transport Committee” in Geneva on Tuesday.
“Reaching zero road fatalities by 2050, digitizing transport services, providing a range of combined mobility services and completing the missing links in the transportation network are Iran’s main priorities for the future,” IRNA quoted the minister as saying.
The two-day ministerial meeting was to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Inland Transport Committee, take stock of its past contributions and to decide on its future mission until 2030.
The Inland Transport Committee is the highest policymaking body of UNECE in the field of transport.
