The field of information and communications technology has created 10% of all the jobs in Iran, the minister of cooperatives, labor and social welfare said.
“This share is expected to reach 12% over the next Iranian year (March 2017-18),” Ali Rabiei was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
According to deputy minister of communications and information technology, Nasrollah Jahangard, the ICT sector in Iran accounts for 2.5% of gross domestic product.
“The information and communications technology market in Iran is worth 270 trillion rials ($7.5 billion), of which 84% account for telecoms technologies. In the past three years, local Internet technology firms have quickly adapted with the development of third- and fourth-generation wireless mobile telecommunications,” Jahangard was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency a few months ago.
“Iran’s ICT market has the potential to grow by more than 10 trillion rials ($278 million),” he added.
