A lawmaker has called on the government to ban the import of goods that are not economically justifiable to be imported. Jafar Qaderi, a member of the parliamentary Plan and Budget Committee, said on Saturday that, if implemented, the limitation imposed on imports would stop currency flight. “The available hard currency should be used optimally,” he said. “Under the status quo when the country is faced with sanctions, imports should be regulated and the hard currency should be used for urgent purposes only.” Qaderi said that one of the measures the government should take, especially under current external pressure, is to provide loans for domestic production units in a bid to strengthen production rather than trade.
