Deputy Roads and Urban Development Minister Amir Amini said Iran’s freeways will stretch out to more than 7,000 km by the end of the sixth five-year development plan (2016-21). According to Amini, the total length of Iranian freeways currently stands at about 2,500 km, IRNA reported. One of the major Iranian freeway projects is the so-called Tehran-North Freeway connecting the capital city to Chalous in the northern Mazandaran Province. The 121-kilometer project has been progressing at a snail’s pace for about two decades now.
