About 20 tons of agricultural products were exported to Russia from Jiroft County in the southeastern Kerman Province, an official with Kerman Customs Bureau said.
“This is the first shipment of agro products to Russia from Jiroft. We hope to increase our exports to that country in future,” Mehdi Nikbakht was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
Russian Agriculture Minister Alexander Nikolayevich Tkachyov proposed the idea of “Green Corridor” during his visit to Iran back in January with the aim of easing customs formalities to speed up the clearance of Iranian agricultural consignments to Russia.
The Green Corridor, which initially sought to replace Turkish exports of agricultural products to Russia with Iranian goods amid tensions between Moscow and Ankara, became operational “at full strength” by the end of 2016 in the words of Tkachyov’s deputy, Sergei Levin.
