Over 812,000 tons of goods worth $680 million were exported from East Azarbaijan Province during the eight months to November 20, registering a 9% increase in weight and a 2% decline in value compared with the corresponding period of last year.

The main exported items were plastic products, fruit, citrus fruit skin, mineral oil and fuel, machinery, grain, sugar and sugar cube, confectionary, glass and glassware, iron, cast iron and steel.

The export destinations were 89 countries, including Iraq, Turkey, Georgia, Afghanistan, Armenia, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Pakistan, the UAE and Azerbaijan, IRNA quoted Ali Asghar Abbaszadeh, an official with East Azarbaijan Customs Bureau, as saying.

Imports into the province during the eight-month period amounted to 340,000 tons worth over $760 million, indicating a 2% and 13% year-on-year growth in weight and value respectively.

The main imported items were tobacco, wood and wood products, paper and cardboard, electronic equipment and steel products.
