Around 28 million tons of non-oil goods worth $8 billion were exported from Hormozgan during the eight months to November 20, says Alireza Dashtani, an official with the southern Iranian province’s customs department. The exports show a rise of 57% in weight and a 107% upsurge in value, respectively, IRNA reported. About 6.31 million tons of goods worth $10.9 billion were imported into Iran via Hormozgan, registering a 6% decline in weight and a 39% fall in value. Hormozgan has 1,000 kilometers of coastlines from the Persian Gulf to its southwest facing the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain, and to the Sea of Oman to its southeast facing Oman. The province’s capital and port city Bandar Abbas occupies a strategic position in the Strait of Hormuz—a key waterway from which almost half the world’s crude oil supply passes.
