Iran’s Minister of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare Ali Rabiei is scheduled to attend the 16th Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of the International Labor Organization in Bali, Indonesia, from December 6 to 9.

The APRM, which is held every four years, is expected to bring together around 450 delegates from more than 40 Asian and Arab states, Mehr News Agency reported.

National delegations are usually led by a minister and include representatives of workers’ and employers’ organizations to ensure that discussions reflect the broadest range of issues affecting the region’s economy and labor markets.

Head of Iran Labor Islamic Supreme Council Olia Ali-Beigi will represent Iranian workers’ organizations and Tehran City Councilor Fatemeh Daneshvar, who is also a prominent entrepreneur, will represent employers’ organization there.

Policymakers, academics and civil society groups from across the region are expected to attend the event. The APRM’s inaugural ceremony will be attended by President of Indonesia Joko Widodo and ILO’s Director General Guy Ryder.  The meeting’s agenda will include discussions on job creation, employment policies, international labor standards, multinational enterprises, skills and labor migration.  Its conclusions will help shape the work of ILO in the region for the next four years, as well as national labor policies.
