Iran has become a major importer of corn from Ukraine as it bought over 250,000 tons of the crop in October – placing itself among the top three export markets for Ukrainian farmers, according to UkrAgroConsult—a Ukraine-based group consulting/information services in the agricultural and food industries of the Black Sea region.

Ukrainian exporters have a chance to increase their presence in this market because Iran’s key corn supplier – Brazil – will intensify exports no sooner than June 2017, reads a report posted on the group’s website blackseagrain.com. The Iranian market is capable of compensating for the loss of the Chinese outlet for Ukraine. China has not yet purchased corn in view of huge corn surplus in the country, it added.
