Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi said French plane manufacturer Airbus and its American rival Boeing have agreed to grant licenses to the Islamic Republic forthe manufacture and maintenance of plane parts inside Iran. “Manufacture and maintenance permits have been given to Iran. This has been articulated in the text of the draft contract with the two companies,” Akhoundi was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. Iran has signed preliminary multibillion dollar agreements to purchase 118 planes from Airbus and 108 jetliners from Boeing to meet part of its demand for some 500 aircraft. Deputy Roads Minister Asghar Fakhrieh-Kashan earlier said he expected the final plane deals to be signed in November.
