Online registration in the eighth round of the National Population and Housing Census which, based on the initial timetable, was due to end on October 15 has been extended for three days due to higher than expected turnout, the head of Statistical Center of Iran said.
The door-to-door phase, Omid Ali Parsa says, will begin on October 19 and will take one month.
“More than 5.1 million households participated online in this year’s census since it began on September 24, up until 6 a.m. on October 15. So far, close to 17.3 million people have been registered, accounting for 20.5% of all Iranian households and 21.5% of the population,” the SCI chief was quoted as saying by IRNA.
Noting that this is the first time the national census is being conducted online in Iran, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi said that the over 20% participation rate places Iran second in the world after Japan with a participation rate of 35% in its first online census, ISNA reported.
The Statistical Center of Iran is the official body in charge of providing data on Iranian population, agriculture, manufacturing, trade and economy.
