Meat Imports From Armenia, Mongolia

Iran will import around 3,000 tons of meat from Armenia and Mongolia to meet the demand for this product during the lunar month of Muharram (started October 3), ISNA quoted Deputy Agriculture Minister Ali Akbar Mehrfard as saying. The annual average import of meat stands at 80,000 tons. Muslims offer votive food at mourning functions in the first 10 days of Muharram that culminates in Ashura, the day Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his companions were martyred some 14 centuries ago in present-day Karbala, Iraq.
