Managing Director of Government Trading Corporation of Iran Ali Qanbari said about 3 million tons of wheat in excess of the country’s need will be exported to neighboring countries in the near future. “As much as 14.5 million tons of wheat have been produced this year (March 2016-17), more than 11 million of which have been purchased by the government from local farmers at guaranteed prices,” IRNA quoted Qanbari as saying. Every year, the government buys wheat from local farmers at guaranteed prices to build up its strategic reserves and control prices in the domestic market.
