RAJA Rail Transportation Company is planning to purchase 250 new wagons to renovate its aging fleet, says the newly-appointed managing director of the company, Mohammad Rajabi. He put the average age of RAJA wagons at 40 years and said his company’s share of national rail transport is around 50%, ILNA reported. RAJA was established in November 1996 as an arm of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways with the aim of improving the quality and quantity of railroad passenger services. It was transferred to the Tourism Holding Company’s Social Security Organization (known by its Persian acronym HEGTA) in March 2010 as part of IRIR’s outstanding debt to the organization.
