Tehran Municipality unveiled on Sunday 58 new subway cars built by Tehran Wagon Manufacturing Company. “The manufacture of the wagons cost 2 trillion rials (more than $56 million at market exchange rates)”, CEO of Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Operation Company, Habil Darvishi, was quoted as saying by IRNA during the unveiling ceremony. He added that the new wagons will add 300,000 passengers per day to the capacity of the capital city’s subway system. According to the official, 40% of the equipment used in the fleet of Tehran’s subway are made by Tehran Wagon Manufacturing Company. The company’s long-term plan is to produce 400 cars per year.
