More than 42 million tons of goods were loaded and unloaded in the ports of Hormozgan Province in southern Iran during the five months of the current Iranian year (started March 20), registering a 22% rise compared with last year’s corresponding period, according to the general manager of Ports and Maritime Organization of the province. “Non-oil exports from Hormozgan’s ports amounted to more than 14.8 million tons and imports stood at 3.9 million tons, indicating a 55% rise and a 15% decline respectively compared with the similar period of the year before,” IRNA quoted Ebrahim Idani as saying. Idani added that container loading and unloading amounted to about 865,000 TEUs, registering a 28% increase year-on-year. More than 16,000 vessels berthed in Hormozgan’s ports during the period, showing a 22% rise.
