The government is starting the repayment of its long overdue liabilities to contractors and pensioners as of Saturday, said government spokesman, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, on Friday.
The parliament has approved the repayment of 400 trillion rials ($11.1 billion at market exchange rate) of government debt in the current fiscal year (March 2016-17). Nobakht further said the government will also repay the debts of wheat farmers and retired teachers, IRNA reported.
