Nomadic hand-woven exports, including carpet, rug, tapestry and drapery, from Fars Province in southern Iran during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 20-July 21, 2016) stood at about $2.9 million, according to the provincial office of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization. The carpets mostly headed to Central Asia, the littoral states of Persian Gulf, Japan, Canada, Australia and some member states of the European Union, IRNA reported. More than 180,000 carpet weavers are active in Fars, whose share in the domestic carpet production and export stands at 14% and 17% respectively.
