Water and wastewater industries are active in 20 world export markets, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said in the opening ceremony of the 10th Iran International Water and Wastewater Exhibition in Tehran, IRNA reported on Monday. According to the minister, Iran’s domestic water and wastewater industry has notably improved over the years. “With the private sector’s cooperation, 100 thousand contracts worth 2 trillion rials (around $75 million) have been signed in the water sector and more are set to be inked in the near future,” Chitchian added. Presently, Iranian experts are capable of constructing dams, hydroelectric power plants, water and wastewater refineries and pipes in various sizes, he said. Chitchian said his ministry is currently in charge of water and wastewater projects worth over $1.6 billion in Iraq. He also underscored the government’s support for companies active in the export sector.
