Part of the Aliat-Astara roadway, to the south of Azerbaijan’s capital Baku, which connects Iran and Azerbaijan, was inaugurated by Azeri President Ilham Aliyev on Saturday, IRNA reported on Sunday. The 205km four-lane roadway will significantly reduce the time it takes to travel between the two countries compared to the old route. Tehran and Baku have announced plans to expand road and rail transportation corridors between the two neighbors and build closer trade relations. Aliat is a municipality in Baku. Astara is a city in and the capital of the Astara Rayon of Azerbaijan. It is a walking distance across the border from an eponymous city across from the border in Iran.
