Iran imports around 60% of its need for medical devices, says head of Food and Drug Administration Rasoul Dinarvand, adding that the percentage for imaging equipment such as CT scan, MRI, and radiology machines is 100%. Furthermore, he said 30% of the pharmaceuticals available in the market are foreign brands, ISNA reported. His remarks about the share of imported medicine come as earlier Vice President for Science and Technology, Sorena Sattari said 98% of domestic demand for medicine is produced inside the country, adding that Iran will soon export pharmaceuticals to Europe. Another report by the Dubai-based Whispering Bell risk management firm says between 90% and 97% of Iran’s finished medicinal product requirements are produced locally, as well as around 50% of the raw materials needed as input.
