Iran exported $27 million worth of hand-woven carpets to the US during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 20-June 20, 2016), according to head of Iran’s National Carpet Center. The US, traditionally the biggest buyer of fine Iranian rugs, imposed a ban on carpet imports from Iran, among other products, in September 2010. However, it recently reopened its market after the removal of the international sanctions in January. “Total exports of handmade carpets stood at $83 million during the four-month period, registering a 39.5% increase compared to the same period last year,” Hamid Kargar was quoted by IRNA as saying.
