Close to 1,430 tons of hand-woven carpets worth $83 million were exported to 80 countries during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 20-July 20, 2016), with the US being the main destination, according to the head of the Iran National Carpet Center, Hamid Kargar. “Export of fine Persian carpets were hard hit during sanction years and we lost our markets to rival countries such as India and Pakistan. But things are back on track after the lifting of economic sanctions in mid-January, and Iranian rugs are gaining their past glory,” he said, IRNA reportecd.
