Tax Evasion at $8.4b a Year

Tax evasion is costing the government up to 300,000 billion rials ($8.43 billion at market exchange rates) every year, the director general of Iranian National Tax Administration said. “Currently, the tax-to-GDP ratio in Iran stands at 7%. This could rise to more than 10% once we tackle evasion,” IRNA also quoted Kamel Taqavi-Nejad as saying. The ratio is about 40% in many European countries and stands at 49% in Denmark.
