Since the beginning of the harvest season about three months ago, the government has purchased about 82,000 tons of fresh tea leaves from local farmers in the northern provinces of Gilan and Mazandaran, indicating a 43% increase compared with the corresponding period of last year. Iran Tea Organization estimated that in the current Iranian year (March 2016-17), 110,000 to 115,000 tons of fresh tea leaves will be produced, which will be 40% more than last year.
